Pick the gear, not the marketing

A face shield is secondary protection: under ANSI Z87.1 it goes over safety glasses or goggles. A forestry helmet carries its own visor and earmuffs. Each product page lists its marks and says what they cover.

How to choose head and face protection

Start with what's coming at you

Sparks and metal chips want a thick visor on headgear that stays put: a flip-up face shield. Fine dust and spray get past any shield, so demo, drywall and washdown want goggles that seal under it: the kits. Falling branches, chainsaw chips and saw noise want a forestry helmet, with the visor and the earmuffs built in.

A shield is not a hard hat, and a visor is not glasses

A face shield covers the face, not the top of the head. And a shield or a visor is secondary protection: ANSI Z87.1 expects safety glasses or goggles underneath, because the visor stops the big pieces and the small ones find the gap.

Check what the job asks for

A site that asks for a hard hat usually means ANSI Z89.1. The ForestArmor Pro lists it: Type 1, Class C. The ForestArmor+ lists EN 397, the European helmet standard. On a face shield the mark to look for is Z87+ on the visor. Each product page lists its certificates: read them against your site's rules before you buy.

Fit, fog and spares

Protection that slips comes off. Look for a ratchet adjustment and a sweatband you can replace. Mesh visors don't fog; clear visors do when the coating is wiped with the wrong rag: soap, water, a soft cloth. A scratched visor is a swap, not a new shield: the FaceArmor Pro takes spare visors. Anything that breaks before it wears out is on us: message us with your order number and a replacement ships.
