Glove cut levels, explained

Cut resistance is a rating, not a promise. ANSI/ISEA 105 levels A1 to A9 measure the load a straight blade needs to cut the fabric; each product page carries its level and says what it covers. No glove is rated for a powered blade.

How to choose work gloves

Start with what your hands are up against

Blades, sheet edges and glass need a cut rating: that's the cut-resistant knits, each with its cut level on the product page. Lumber, block and tools wear a glove through long before they cut it, so rough work wants a reinforced palm and a high abrasion level: the work gloves. Knocks to the back of the hand, in engine bays and tight spaces, want knuckle guards: the tactical gloves.

Then wet or dry

Dry work: a knit back breathes and you still feel the tool. Rain and wet work outdoors: the ImpactFit Pro has a water-resistant shell and a coated palm. Blades in wet or oily work: a cut-resistant glove with a nitrile palm, the CutGuard Pro Tough Coated.

Fit is safety

A glove that slips gets taken off, and a glove that's off protects nothing. Measure your hand the way the size chart on each product page shows and take the snug fit: grip and touchscreen tips both work better. The ToughFit and ImpactFit gloves have touchscreen tips, so the glove stays on when the phone rings. Wrong size: message us and we swap it.

What the ratings mean

ANSI/ISEA 105 grades the glove's material in a lab: cut resistance from A1 to A9, abrasion and puncture each by level. Some of our cut-resistant gloves list the European EN 388 cut level instead, a letter from A to F. The ToughFit gloves hold cut A1, abrasion level 6 and puncture level 2: built for wear, not for blades. Knuckle guards are padding against knocks and scrapes, not an impact rating. No glove is cut proof. Each product page lists the ratings a glove holds; where it lists none, the glove has not been rated.

How long they last

Palms and fingertips go first. That's wear, not failure: rotate pairs and wash them the way the product page says. Anything that fails before it wears out is on us: message us with your order number and a replacement ships.
